Rice is an annual herb. Stems 50 to 120 cm tall, erect, clustered. Leaf sheaths glabrous; auricle crescent-shaped, ciliate lateral margin; ligule hard membranous, lanceolate, 8-25 mm long; leaf blade linear or linear-lanceolate, flat, 20-60 cm long, 6 wide ~20 mm, rough surface, pronounced veins, no hair on the back. Caryopsis oblong, with a linear umbilical, and pods together with grain. Flowering period from July to August; fruiting period from August to September.
