Each year after the wheat is harvested, a large amount of straw is produced. After the straw is aminated, it can be used to feed cattle and sheep. The widely used methods are: stacking method, cellar (pool) method, ammoximation method, and ammoniating bag method. There are two main types of ammoniation methods used locally:
1, ammoniation pool ammoniation method. The specific methods are: (1) Select ammonia pools that are sunny, leeward, high in terrain, hard in soil, low in groundwater level, and easy to make, feed, and manage. The shape of the pool may be rectangular or circular. The size and capacity of the pool are based on the number of ammoniated straws, and the amount of ammoniated straw is determined by the type and amount of livestock. Generally, about 100 kilograms of chopped air-dried straw can be placed per cubic meter of pool. A cow weighing 200 kilograms needs 1.5-2.0 tons of straw a year. After digging the pool, use bricks or stones to cover the bottom, build walls, and cement the surface. (2) The straw is crushed or cut into small pieces of 1.5-2.0 cm. (3) 3-5% of urea is formulated with warm water. The amount of warm water depends on the moisture content of the straw. Generally, the moisture content of straw is 12% for every 100 kilograms of straw plus 30 kilograms. (4) Spread the urea solution evenly on the straw, stir it while sprinkling, or spray a urea solution evenly with a layer of straw. (5) After filling, cover the mouth of the pool with a plastic cover and cover it with soil around it.
2. Ammonization of plastic bags. Plastic bags are generally 2.5 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. The requirements for plastic bags are non-toxic polyethylene films, and the thickness is more than 0.12 mm. It is best to use double-layer plastic bags. The cut straw is sprayed uniformly with a prepared urea aqueous solution (equivalent to 4-5% of urea in air-dried mass dissolved in clean water equivalent to 40-50% of straw mass), filled with plastic bags, and sealed. Yan bag mouth, placed in the dry place of sunny. During storage, you should always check, if you smell the ammonia smell at the mouth of the bag, you should re-tighten and find that the plastic bag is damaged, and take the letter with the tape.
After ammoniating the straw for a certain period of time, it can be used for feeding. The length of ammoniation depends on the temperature. The temperature is 20-30°C and it takes 7-14 days. The temperature is higher than 30°C and it only takes 5-7 days. Ammoniated straws are quality-characterized before they are fed to special animals. In general, the aminated straw should be apricot-yellow, with a scent and a pungent ammonia smell. If ammoniated straw is found to be mostly mouldy, it cannot be used to feed livestock.
