Improving food testing technology is the key

"Give me a creamy sandwich bread and a cup of soy milk." Peng Peng, who is in the fourth grade every day, will go to the bakery not far from home to buy breakfast, and then go to school while walking.

In the city, there are not many students who have breakfast like Peng Peng. Almost in every residential area, there are one or several bakeries, and there are many varieties of bread, bamboo charcoal bread, kelp bread, blueberry sandwich bread...

The reporter casually walked into several bakeries and found that the general franchise chain stores will have business licenses and health permits, and some small bread workshops are almost non-certified or unlicensed.

In fact, bread is just one of our daily foods, rice, noodles, milk, eggs, vegetables... these are inseparable from each of us every day. So how can the safety of these foods be guaranteed?

Food safety is first reflected in the detection technology

At present, when talking about the issue of food safety, many people naturally think of the "Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China" which was officially implemented on June 1 last year.

"This is only a standard. If there is no detection technology, first of all, you don't know if a food has insecurities. Secondly, you can't know the extent of this unsafe factor. This is the long-term food safety. One of the reasons for the trouble." Guo Yajian, a lecturer at Langfang Food Engineering School in Hebei Province, said in a telephone interview with the reporter of Science Times.

Indeed, the lack of food nutrition and health knowledge directly affects the public's attention to food safety, coupled with the use of a large number of chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, veterinary drugs and other sources of food quality and safety have brought hidden dangers.

In China, there are thousands of laboratories and hundreds of thousands of testing technicians from national, provincial, and county-level testing organizations. This has led to the question of how to ensure uniform and reliable testing data.

Li Hongmei of the China Institute of Metrology has written that if there is no unified and well-resourced national food safety measurement traceability system to provide reliability and comparability support, it will produce invalid measurement results, resulting in the analysis and measurement resources. Big waste, and even the resulting wrong decisions, cause immeasurable consequences.

Lack of regulation in the production of test reagents

The level of food testing technology directly affects the safety of food. The accuracy of the detection technology requires the support of high-quality detection reagent products and instruments.

As a result, some companies have begun to pay attention to the development of food safety testing equipment. In addition to physical quantity measurement such as humidity and cleanliness, some chemical and biochemical analytical instruments include spectrophotometers such as ultraviolet light, visible light, fluorescence, and atomic absorption, as well as gas chromatographs, liquid chromatographs, mass spectrometers, microbial detection instruments, and biochemical analysis. Instruments, rapid testing instruments, etc. have begun to be applied and promoted in food safety testing.

“In fact, there are not many large enterprises in China that focus on food safety testing kits or instruments, and some products need to be improved in terms of stability and sensitivity.” Liu Jun, general manager of Beijing Apis Biological Co., Ltd., was interviewed by reporters. Said in the interview.

Liu Jun did not hidely point out that the lack of reference systems for the production of food testing reagents in China has led to a mixed quality of food testing reagents. “If you use the same raw material reagents at home and abroad to test the same food, you may get different results.”

Liu Jiapeng, general manager of Beijing Huaan Maike Biotechnology Co., Ltd., agreed with Liu Jun’s above views.

“But I have always been confident in the market for food safety testing reagents. Although it is difficult to form a relatively mature and mature market like medical in vitro diagnostic reagents due to the lack of unified government supervision of production qualifications, these aspects are also to some extent Restricted the rapid development of enterprises." Liu Jiapeng said.

Establish an information resource sharing platform

In China, the food safety supervision functions belong to the departments of food and drug, agriculture, health, quality inspection, industry and commerce, etc., forming a multi-sector management pattern. Different departments are in charge of different links of the food (food) chain. The supervision system supplemented by the main and variety management has resulted in the dispersal of food safety supervision and regulatory resources, and cannot form a regulatory force and a long-term supervision mechanism.

“Furally, a product needs to be repeatedly tested. Sometimes there will be a phenomenon in which different departments do not recognize the test results, which wastes inspection resources and increases the cost of food enterprises,” Guo Yajian said.

Guo Yajian suggested that, referring to the model of drug testing, the inspection agencies under the industrial and commercial, health, and agricultural departments will be integrated to form a special food safety testing agency, which is responsible for food safety testing and strengthens the responsibility of food manufacturers in terms of safety. All foods should be inspected before they leave the factory. The testing organization strengthens the sampling inspection of the food on the market, the inspection fee is exempted from sampling inspection, the inspection fee is unqualified, and the results of the sampling inspection are regularly published in the news media, or a unified information publishing platform is established, and relevant supervision is established. Information about food safety between departments is posted on this platform.
